On April 5, Hawaii’s 13,000 public school teachers and 3,200 public university faculty members walked off the job after failing to reach an agreement on salary talks with Gov. Ben Cayetano.

Ni’ihau School became the first public school in the state to reopen during the strike, with the island’s 45 enrolled students scheduled to have shown up for classes today.
