Nicolas “Lasing” Cabreros, of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 21, 2001, at the age of 80. Born in San Manuel, Pangasinan, Philippines on May 10, 1920, he was a retired Senior Plant Irrigator with Lihu’e Plantation.

He is survived by: two sons: Juanito (Rosita) Cabreros of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i and Victor (Merle) Cabreros of Santa Clara, Calif.; and daughter: JoAnn Cabreros of Honolulu, O’ahu; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 2, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; mass officiated by Father Paul will begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.

Rose Naumu
Rose R. Naumu, of ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 23, 2001. at the age of 83. Born in Koloa, Kaua’i on July 17, 1917, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by: her husband: Leilehua Naumu of ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i; son: Gerald (Marylyn) Naumu of Hanapepe, Kaua’i; two daughters: Betty (Ben) Mateo of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Molly Knight of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister: Mary (Louis) Galaza of Kekaha, Kaua’i; numerous nieces and nephews.
Service were private. Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Scotty Kaneakua
“Scotty Scoots” Clifford Scot Yukio Kaneakua of Kapa’a, died Feb. 23, 2001, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 31.
Born July 9, 1969, he was a laborer with the construction industry, a sportsman and a waterman.
Preceded in death by his father, Clifford Ichimasa, he is survived by his sweetheart: Maile Shklov of Kapa’a; one daughter: Tiani Mahina Kewai Kaneakua of Kapa’a; mother: Leina Kaneakua of Kapa’a; father: William (Anita) Kaneakua of Lihu’e; five brothers: Tai (Ann) Kaneakua of Kapa’a, Kahana Kaneakua of O’ahu, Kaulana Kaneakua of Lihu’e, Clifford Ichimasa of Lihu’e, and Dean Ichimasa of Kapa’a; two sisters: Cora Matsushima of Lihu’e and Vera Hirota of Lihu’e; paternal grandmother: Louise Kaneakua of Kapa’a; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, at the Lihu’e Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, from 10 a.m. Services to be celebrated at 1 p.m. Burial to follow at Kapa’a County Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
John Levinthol Jr.
John Levinthol Jr. of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died Feb. 21, 2001, at Queen’s Medical Center at the age of 78.
Born Dec. 1, 1922, in Kealia, Kaua’i, he was a truck driver for the sugar industry with Lihu’e Plantation and also served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by four sons: Nicholas (Loida) Levinthol, Freddy (Evelyn) Levinthol, Eddie Levinthol, and Vincent (Rufelia) Levinthol, all of Kapa’a; one daughter; Donna (Barrett) Ferreira of O’ahu; three sisters: Priscilla Perreira, Carrie Blaine and Ida Berch Bloodworth, all of O’ahu; one brother: Abraham Levinthol of California; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 2, at Kapa’a Missionary Church from 3 p.m. Services to be celebrated at 4 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Harriet Riddle
Harriet Rosella Altermatt Riddle died Feb. 23, 2001, at the home of her daughter on Kaua’i. She was in the company of her daughters, Catherine Stiglmeier of Kaua’i, and Susan Colvey of Ngakuta Bay, New Zealand. Her son, Bill Riddle of Perris, Calif., had just spent a week visiting his mother and saying his farewells.
Harriet, who was known as Rose to her family, was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Stony Creek, CT., the youngest of three sisters. She was the daughter of Erma Howd Altermatt Allen and John Marcel Altermatt. Harriet attended Branford High School and graduated with the class of 1946. Se attended Stone Business College. As a young career woman, she met and courted Robert E. Riddle. She traveled to Yokohama, Japan to marry Bob, who was working for the CIA. They were married on Feb. 26, 1953 and enjoyed 24 happy years together in Japan, Stony Creek, Connecticut and later California.
After Bob died in 1976, Harriet devoted herself to helping and enjoying her three grown children and grandchildren. She moved to Hawaii in 1992 to be closer to her two daughters. The last several years she divided her time between her three children’s homes.
Harriet is survived by her son, William Riddle; daughters, Catherine Stiglmeier and Susan Colvey. She has one surviving sister, Jean (Altermatt) Mann of Stony Creek, CT., and three brothers, John Altermatt of Stony Creek, CT., Charles Allen of Marrietta, GA., and Arthur Allen of Santa Ana, Calif. She is also survived by six grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass for Harriet will be held at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa, Kaua’i, on Thursday, March 1, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Harriet’s remembrance to Kaua’i Hospice, P.O. Box 3286, Lihu’e HI 96766.
Calista Peirce
Calista “Cally” Peirce of Aspen, Colorado died at her father’s condo in Princeville, Feb. 22, 2001 at the age of 48, after a 14 year war with breast cancer.
With the support of her family, the war took the form of conventional to alternative medicine, from bone marrow transplants to immuno therapy, from the mainland to Germany. It defined her character and being and is summoned up in one word, courageous.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on July 19, 1952, she was an attorney who practiced in Colorado until her battle with cancer forced her into retirement in 1998, when she began to spend more time in Kaua’i. A 24 year visitor here, she loved the island, it’s people and especially Hanalei Bay.
She is survived by her mother, Joy Landfield of Winnetka, Illinois, her father and stepmother, George and Pam Landfield, of Sedona, Arizona, her brother Michael Landfield, of Winnetka, Illinois, her husband, Bill Tuite of Aspe, Colorado, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and her beloved border collie, Echo.
The family wishes to thank all her caregivers and the staff at Wilcox Medical Clinic and Wilcox Memorial Hospital, and her wonderful island friends, all of whom helped to make her life a little better and show and share with her their Aloha. Mahalo Nui Loa. Her remains will be cremated at the Garden Island Mortuary and a memorial service will be held March 10 by the pier on Hanalei Bay at 10 a.m.
Elsie Perez
Elsie Nancy Perez of Lawai, Kaua’i, died Feb. 23, 2001, at her home at the age of 84.
A homemaker, she was born Feb. 16, 1917, on Maui.
She is survived by one son: Anderson (Diane) Perry of Lawai; four daughters: Sonia Gay of Georgia, Diana Cummings of Hanapepe, Yvonne Alakai and Annabelle Sanchez, both of O’ahu; one brother: Willie (Carmen) Freitas of California; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo, from 9 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Keahi. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens in Lihu’e.
Casua attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
