Jack Claytor
Jack Claytor of Wailuku, Maui and formerly of Kaua’i, died Feb. 12, 2001, at Hale Makua, Kahului, at the age of 77.
Born July 30, 1923, on O’ahu, he retired in 1983 after 20 years with HC&S and 13 years with McBryde Sugar on Kaua’i. A photo enthusiast, he was known for his family portraits and images of Haleakala Crater. He was an active member of Wailuku Union Church and a volunteer for Hospice. A veteran of WW II, he also served in the Hawaii Territorial Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Claytor of Wailuku; son: Gary (Susan) Claytor of California; daughters: Leslie (Ramon) Claytor-True of California, Laurie (Kennie) Claytor-Denton of Kaua’i; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, at Wailuku Union Church at 3 p.m. Reception to follow at Dodge Hall.
The family requests aloha attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice or Hale Makua.
Alice Maglinti
Alice Almeida Moniz Maglinti of Kalaheo, Kaua’i, died Feb. 11, 2001, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 77.
A retired custodian/baker at ‘Ele’ele Public School, she was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Hawai’i.
She is survived by her husband: Johnny Maglinti of Kalaheo; two sons: Landis (Virginia) Fu of New York and Vernon Fu / Lynn of Lawai; two daughters: Ilona (Warren) Moritsugu of Koloa and Drucilla (Richard) Louis of ‘Omao; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Emily (Hank) Johnson of California, Evelyn Charmin of Honolulu, Gloria (King) Riata of California, and Lucille Yuen of California; four brothers: Ernest Almeida of Koloa, Daniel (Yoshiko) Moke of Kentucky, Tai Soon (Amy) Kang of ‘Ele’ele, and William Almeida of Honolulu; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Friday, Feb. 23, at Holy Cross Church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Holy Cross Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Keahi. Inurnment to follow at St.Raphael’s Church Cemetery.
The family suggests casual attire and asks that flowers be omitted. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Amos Uyeda
Amos Naoto Uyeda of Lawai, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 16, 2001, at the age of 67. Born in ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i on May 11, 1933, he was a retired Conservation Officer with Department of Land and Natural Resources.
He is survived by his wife: Doris Uyeda of Lawai, Kaua’i; son: Aaron (Lori) Uyeda of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; two grandchildren; two brothers: James (Nora) Uyeda of Las Vegas, Nev., and Kanao Asaoka of Lihu’e, Kaua’; three sisters: Kiyoko Arinaga of Kealia, Kaua’i, Nancy (Henry) Kapali of Honolulu, O’ahu, and Mitsuko (Harold) Niwa of Honolulu, O’ahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service officiated by Pastor Merv Walker will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

William Chu
William “Bill” Chu of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died at his home Feb. 13, 2001, at the age of 85.
Born in Hanalei on July 8, 1915, he was an outstanding athlete when he was young, and later served as coach for winning teams in several different sports.
Mr. Chu was a retired machinist and superintendent at Hawaiian Cannery; he served as Director of Parks and Recreation with the County of Kaua’i; at one time he taught ballroom dancing for the county; he and his wife were well known as the owners of Pau Hana Bar in Kapa’a town; he headed the “Hale Kai” Beach Club at Wailua; he was a surrogate father to many young men in Kawaihau; and was considered a “chef extraordinaire” having cooked pigs and cows for hundreds of lu’aus, for many, many years.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Morita Chu; daughter-in-law, Lei Chu of Makakilo, O’ahu; (2) Brothers: Milton Chu and Charles Chu both of Honolulu, O’ahu; four sisters, Eleanor Santos, Lily Chock, Mary Wann and Katherine Lee, all also of Honolulu; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by daughter Marilyn Chu Kai, son William “Honey” Chu, Jr., grandson, Kelvin Lono Kai; brothers Kenneth, Teddy and Barlow Chu.
Friends may visit with the family at the Kapa’a First Hawaiian Church Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. Services at 11 a.m. will be officiated by Rev. Richard Chun and Kahu Richard Kamanu.

Lily “Oma” Agatha Wynn of Koloa, Kaua’i, died Feb. 18, 2001, at her home at the age of 80.

Hilario Leanio, Sr.
Hilario “Larry” Leanio, Sr., of Anahola, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 19, 2001, at the age of 92.
Born in Pangasinan, Philippines on Jan. 14, 1909, he was a retired truck driver with Grove Farm Co.
He is survived by: his wife: Jacqueline Evalani Leanio of Anahola, Kaua’i; two sons: Rudy (Debbie) Leanio of Brazil, Indiana
and Eric (Michele) Leanio of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i; three daughters: Mabel J. Daos of Kapolei, Oahu, Erlinda (Michael) Bukoski of Lawai, Kaua’i, and Donna (George) Leanio of Anahola, Kaua’i; step-daughter: M. Judi Madijanon of Kapolei, Oahu; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother: Cornelio Leanio of Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, at the Kaua’i Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.
