The Kaua’i-based Coast Guard cutter Kittiwake was involved in the search for missing crew members of the Japanese fishing boat sunk in Friday’s collision with a U.S. Navy submarine.
The Kittiwake is an 87-foot patrol boat stationed at Nawiliwili. It was christened last summer.
Other Coast Guard vessels and aircraft searched along with Navy ships and aircraft. The latter didn’t include helicopters from Pacific Missile Range Facility. A spokesman there said Saturday that PMRF-based helicopters were not called into the search.
