Tomiko Kanemoto
Tomiko Kanemoto, of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 29, 2001, at the age of 96.
Born in Koloa, Kaua’i on Aug. 3, 1904, she is survived by: two sons: George (Elsbeth) Kanemoto of San Diego, Calif., and Donald (Charlene) Kanemoto of Cerritos, Calif.; three daughters: Lucille DeMarais of Minneapolis, MN, Alice (Yukio) Shigeta and Jean (Herbert) Hamura, both of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Sukeichi Ono of Omao, Kaua’i, and Masao (Kiyoko) Ono of Lawai, HI; sister: Toshiko (Thomas) Hirai of Honolulu, Oahu; sister-in-law: Satsue Ono of Koloa, Kaua’i; and numerous nieces and nephews
Private memorial services were held at the Lihu’e Christian Church with Rev. Kevin Page officiating. Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Nicoda Reeves
Nicoda “Nico” Fay Collins Reeves, of Kekaha, died Feb. 5, 2001, at the age of 21.
Born Oct. 28, 1979 in Carson, NM. Nico was a tree lover by nature and occupation. He worked as an arborist with friend and mentor Mark Query. Among his activities was the trimming of the coconut palms at Waimea Plantation Cottages which were planted by his great, great grandfather H.P. Fay over 90 years ago.
He is survived by his mother, Trina Scott Collins, sister Mataia Isabella Reeves, grandmother Linda Fay Collins, uncle and aunts Thomas D. Collins of Honolulu, Michelle Collins of New York, Kathryn Collins Novak of Santa Barbara, the entire Fay family, and many close ohana and friends in New Mexico and Kaua’i.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the home of his grandmother, Linda Fay Collins in Waimea. His family suggests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
Kahoku’uluwehi Hurley
Kahoku’uluwehi Aloiau Ohai J.B. Montgomery Hurley, born on Sept. 1, 1982, died Feb. 3, 2001, at the age of 18.
He is survived by his parents, Paul S. Hurley and A. Maile F. Hurley of Wailua, his sweetheart, Jessica Egeland of Wailua, two sisters, Puanani P. Hurley (Barry Toyama, O’ahu), Kawehikulani S. (Ryan K. Anama, Taylor & Cody, Anahola), and one brother Kalauokalani Hurley, (Thomas, Kohala); grandparents, William and Evelyn Fernandes, (Wailua) and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Services to be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Stake Center in Lihu’e. The viewing will take place from 12 noon to 3 p.m. with services at 3 p.m., burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
John Teves
John K. Teves of Pukalani, Maui and formerly of Kaua’i, died Feb. 5, 20001, at Kula Hospital at the age of 72.
Born Aug. 27, 1928, in Honolulu, O’ahu, he retired from Maui Pine after working his way up to being supervisor. He had worked 23 years in Kaua’i relocating to Maui in 1973. He enjoyed oil painting in his leisure time.
He is survived by his wife: Laverne Teves of Pukalani, Maui; sons John J. Teves of Kula, Maui and Scott (Robin) Teves of Kailua, O’ahu; daughters: Deborah (Roy) Teves-White of Waiehu, Maui and Michelle (Joseph) Bustillos of Kuau; sisters: Violet Medeiros of O’ahu, Agnes Medeiros of Kaua’i, Edna Lopes of O’ahu, and Audrey Quick of Indiana; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Church in Makawao, Maui, on Saturday, Feb. 10. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Norman’s Mortuary.
Francisco Ceballos Sr.
Francisco Ceballos Sr. of Kalaheo, Kaua’i died Feb. 6, 2001, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 77.
An electronic technician, she was born April 3, 1923, in Makaweli, Kaua’i.
He is survived by his wife: Lucia Semana Ceballos, Sr. of Kalaheo; four sons: Francisco (Sandy) Ceballos, Jr. – Oregon, Donald (Mai) Ceballos of Texas, Glenn (Mona) Ceballos of California, and Errol (Rose) Ceballos of Kaua’i; two brothers: Clemente (Marie) Ceballos of Kekaha and Lorenzo (Helen) Ceballos of Waimea; two sisters: Sally Edayan of Kalaheo and Betty Parraga of Omao; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalhaeo from 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Keahi. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Dora Hirokane
Dora Santiago Hirokane of Puhi, Kaua’i, died Feb. 3, 2001 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 53.
Born on Sept., 14, 1947, she was a homemaker and graduated from Kapa’a High School in 1965.
She is survived by her three sons: Brandon (Stacey) Hirokane of Kapa’a, Levi (Taneil) Hirokane of Kapa’a, Cullen (Crystal) Hirokane of Lihu’e; one daughter: Natural-Lee (Glen) Hirokane of Lawa’i; Father: Angel (Rose) Santiago, Sr., of Hanama’ulu; Mother: Margaret Gomes of Kekaha; four brothers: Angel (Lorita) Santiago, Jr. of Kekaha; Ronald (Irwette) Santiago of Hanapepe; Manuel (Valerie) Santiago of Kekaha; Chico Santiago of Kekaha; two sisters: Matilda (George) Inouye of Kekaha; Sharon (Arnold) Santiago-Ader of Kekaha; 4 grandchildren, numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion from 9 a.m. Services to be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Pastor Paul Kirchner. Burial to follow there at the Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.
