Kahoku’uluwehi Hurley
Kahoku’uluwehi Aloiau Ohai J.B. Montgomery Hurley, born on Sept. 1, 1982, died Feb. 3, 2001, at the age of 18.
He is survived by his parents, Paul S. Hurley and A. Maile F. Hurley of Wailua, his sweetheart, Jessica Egeland of Wailua, two sisters, Puanani P. Hurley (Barry Toyama, O’ahu), Kawehikulani S. (Ryan K. Anama, Taylor & Cody, Anahola), and one brother Kalauokalani Hurley, (Thomas, Kohala); grandparents, William and Evelyn Fernandes, (Wailua) and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Services to be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Stake Center in Lihu’e. The viewing will take place from 12 noon to 3 p.m. with services at 3 p.m., burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Harumitsu Hayashi
Harumitsu Hayashi of Kekaha, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 3, 2001, at the age of 77. Born in Koloa, Kaua’i on Jan. 16, 1924, he was a retired Welder with Kekaha Sugar, also served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife: Fusae Hayashi of Kekaha, Kaua’i; son: Craig (Lynn) Hayashi of Hanapepe, Kaua’i; two daughters: Kathleen (Glenn) Yamamoto of Hanapepe, Kaua’i and Sarah (Raymond) Young of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; five grandchildren; sister: Miyoko (William) Kaohi of ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the ‘Ele’ele Baptist Church; service officiated by Pastor Deloach will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
David Sahot
David “Gutsy” Sahot of Kekaha, Kaua’i, died at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital on Feb. 3, 2001, at the age of 66.
Born in Waimea, Kaua’i on Dec. 23, 1934, he was a retired cable installer with Derby Cable Vision.
He is survived by: his daughter: Renae (Henry) Paulo of Kailua, O’ahu; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother: Tito (Cora) Sahot of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; three sisters: Rosalita (James) Ogawa of Honolulu, O’ahu, Dora (Joseph) Tinao of Kailua, Kona, and Theresa Benzone of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, at the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha; Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Aloha attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.

Dorothy Kashiwahara
Dorothy S. Kashiwahara died Jan. 31, 2001, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 88. A memorial service will be at the Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu at 5:30 pm, Sunday, Feb. 18.
Born in Ka’u, Hawai’i, Oct. 1, 1912, she was graduated from McKinley High School in 1930 and the University of Hawai’i in 1934. Mrs. Kashiwahara was an English teacher at Waimea High School on Kaua’i. In 1950, she and her late husband James moved to Okinawa where he served in the U.S. Foreign Broadcast Information Service and she worked for the U.S. Army’s Education program. They also lived in Chevy Chase, Md.; Peppard, England and Santa Rosa,Calif. After retiring in 1977, Mrs. Kashiwahara returned to Honolulu.
She is survived by her son, Ken Kashiwahara, former ABC News correspondent and anchor for KHVH-TV (now KITV) and KGMB-TV; daughters, Ann Kaneko and Joan Johnson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Clara Ishikawa and Irene Nakamura; and brothers Douglas Sakamoto and Sueo Sakamoto.
Interment will be at Lihu’e Public Cemetery on Kaua’i.
The family suggests donations to the The Radio and Television News Directors Foundation, 1000 Connecticut Ave., NW, Suite 615, Washington, D.C. 20036, scholarship for minority journalism students.
Dora Santiago Hirokane Run Wednesday 2/7 with picture (slugged Santiago) and Friday 2/9
Dora Santiago Hirokane of Puhi, Kaua’i, died Feb. 3, 2001 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 54.
Born on Sept., 14, 1947, she was a homemaker and graduated from Kapa’a High School in 1965.
She is survived by her three sons: Brandon (Stacie) Hirokane of Kapa’a, Levi (Taneil) Hirokane of Kapa’a, Cullen (Crystal) Hirokane of Lihu’e; one daughter: Natural-Lee (Glen) Hirokane of Lawa’i; Father: Angel (Rose) Santiago, Sr., of Hanama’ulu; Mother: Margaret Gomes of Kekaha; four brothers: Angel (Lorita) Santiago, Jr. of Kekaha; Ronald (Irnette) Santiago of Hanapepe; Manuel (Valerie) Santiago of Kekaha; Chico Santiago of Kekaha; two sisters: Matilda (George) Inouye of Kekaha; Sharon (Arnold) Santiago-Ader of Kekaha; 4 grandchildren, numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion from 9 a.m. Services to be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Pastor Paul Kirchner. Burial to follow there at the Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

Emma Nakaula Husbands
Emma Nakaula Husbands of Lancaster, Calif., died Jan. 1, 2001.
Born Aug. 23, 1918, in Kilauea, Hawai’i, she was a Chaplain at Palmdale Hospital for several years.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years Marvin E. Husbands; children, Lois (John) Ortiz, Rodney (Maile) Reyes, Stanley (Leslie) Reyes, Irwin K. (Deborah) Husbands, Antoinette Forde and friend Robert Martinez, Vance (Debi) Husbands and Craig (Kathleen) Husbands; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, at Waioli Hall Church in Hanalei, Kaua’i from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, scattering of the ashes to follow.
