Waimea man died in car crash

Yesterday afternoon, Kaua’i County Police released the name of the young man who died in a one-car accident Monday.

Dead is Nicoda Reeves, 21, of Waimea.

His 22-year-old companion in the car, a male whose name has not been released, remained yesterday at Wilcox Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Reeves was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place about 8:45 a.m. Monday on Halewili Road in Kalaheo. According to investigators, the southbound vehicle (police have not said whether Reeves or the other young man were driving) lost control and left the roadway.

The vehicle struck ironwood trees on the west shoulder of the highway.

Both occupants of the vehicle were ejected, leading to speculation that neither youth was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
