A 63-year-old Canadian woman remained in critical condition at Wilcox Memorial Hospital yesterday afternoon after nearly drowning Wednesday morning.
The visitor was snorkeling outside the reef at Po’ipu Beach Park at around 10 a.m. when another swimmer noticed she was having difficulty. The struggling snorkeler was helped back to shore by other members of her group.
Lifeguards administered emergency resuscitation and the woman was transported to Wilcox.
“She is still in critical condition. We’re not sure exactly what happened at this point,” Kaua’i County spokeswoman Beth Tokioka said Thursday.
