After a typical dramatic, Hollywood-type lull in the action, filming resumes with both barrels on Kaua’i next month, as no less than three major productions start rolling in locales from Kilauea to Kipu Kai.
Announced last week was Kevin Costner starring in “Dragonfly” as a distraught physician after his wife disappears in Argentina. Kaua’i locations along the Wailua River are to portray Argentina from early January through nearly the end of February.
“Jurassic Park III” will film on sites in the Kilauea area, on the Mary Lucas Estate lands, said Gini Kapali, director of the Kaua’i County Office of Economic Development. That will bring director Steven Spielberg back to one of his favorite islands.
“Manhunt,” to be filmed on private land at Kipu Kai, is to be a man-off-the-street series for TV, like “Survivor.” Competitors will be hunted like wild animals. The one that eludes the hunters the longest will be the winner, with cash prizes, magazine articles and the requisite visits to “Letterman” and Jay Leno’s “The Tonight Show” likely to follow.
