Hawaii quarterback Timmy Chang was named the Western Athletic Conference
Freshman of the Year.
The St. Louis School graduate played in nine games
this year, and is ranked sixth nationally in total offense with 293 yards per
game. He has thrown for 2,688 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Offensive lineman
Kynan Forney (Sr., 6-3, 284) was the only Hawaii player selected to the All-WAC
first team.
Four Warriors were selected to the second team including
receiver Ashley Lelie (So., 6-3, 178), runningback James Fenderson (Sr., 5-10,
197) and defensive backs Nate Jackson (Jr., 5-10, 168) and Jacob Espiau (Jr.,
5-10, 190).
Texas Christian University led all WAC teams with 10 players on
the first team. The Frogs’ LaDainian Tomlinson was selected as the conference’s
offensive player of the year for the second year in a row.
Tomlinson ran
for a league-record 2,158 yards and led the nation in rushing.
TCU
defensive lineman Aaron Schobel was named the WAC’s defensive player of the
year.
