A youngster from Kaua’i continued her domination of the KIF Saturday,
winning the season-ending meet at Kaua’i Community College.
Freshman Shauna
Tachibana ran her two miles in a season-best 13 minutes, 20.06 seconds to lead
the Red Raiders to an easy victory over Waimea and Kapa’a, and propel Kaua’i
into the state tournament scheduled for November 11 in Honolulu.
The
Raiders totaled 15 points for the KIF season, the maximum possible, as they won
each event contested. Waimea finished with nine points; Kapa’a with
six.
The KIF crown means Kaua’i will, as a team, get the chance to vie for
the state title. Individuals from the island’s other schools will round out the
15 slots the island is given at the state level. Those individuals will be
decided on Thursday at a KIF athletic directors meeting.

quite well at Saturday’s meet. Their top five finishers were Tachibana, Rena
Kido (14:31.03, fifth), Nicole Kashiwabara (14:33.42, sixth), Helyse Sina
