Again, the community is coming together to once more try to impress the
planners and the County Council that the General Plan is our plan, the people’s
plan – not their plan, the developers’ plan.
Once more, the community is
trying to help the planners and the council realize that quality of life,
housing for residents, cultural institutions, the environment, open space – no
sprawl, species protection are foremost in the minds and hearts of the people
of Kaua’i, not profits for developers and more growth that would strain the
island’s carrying capacity as well as subvert efforts to diversify our economy.
Once more, the community is asking for a plan that will have teeth to plan
for a future that assures quality of life not be compromised to benefit tourism
and future residents.
Is this asking too much? Don’t you get it? Can we
make it any clearer?
Halloween is fast approaching, and it looks as if the
policymakers and the planners are tricking us again. Please stop this crazy
attitude and work with the people to make policy that will treat our island
home with respect.
