The Kaua’i High School junior varsity football team shut Kapa’a out for
three-and-a-half quarters last Friday night at Vidinha Stadium.
But in the
end, the Red Raiders’ defense could not keep the Warriors out of the end zone.
Kapa’a got a one-yard touchdown run from Kanalu Hawelu at the 5:51 mark of the
fourth quarter to go ahead 7-3 and did not look back. Gabe Sarsona added the
extra point.
Two minutes later, the Warriors’ Kendall Maglinti also ran one
in from a yard out to add insurance for Kapa’a. A botched extra-point attempt
then turned good for the Warriors, as Hawelu ran in the two-point
conversion.
Kaua’i’s three points came on a 37-yard field goal from Aaron
Coyaso in the third quarter.
The victory improved Kapa’a’s record to 2-2
overall. Kaua’i dropped to 0-3.
Waimea is at the top of the junior varsity
standings with a 3-0 record. The Menehunes and Red Raiders tangle Friday night
at 5 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
