Kaua’i fared fairly well in the 22nd Bank of Hawaii Bankoh Na Wahine O Ke Kai
outrigger canoe race last Sunday, Sept. 24. The race is widely known as the
world championship in women’s canoeing.
The Garden Island’s own Wailua
Kayak & Canoe Club won the event in 1999, and finished third this year. The
paddlers finished in a time of 6:03:19, nearly nine minutes behind the winners,
Kai O Pua from the Big Island.
Kaua’i’s Kaiola I finished 14th in the Open
division, while Kaiola II placed 27th. Wailua Kayak & Canoe-Punikaiwa
finished fourth in the Master 35 division.
