An open letter to the Kaua’i County Council:Election day is rapidly
approaching, and for that reason I know that you are all very concerned with
numbers. Here are some numbers I would like you to consider.
It has now
been over 100 days since you stood by and allowed the president of the Kaua’i
Humane Society to carry out a personal vendetta against Sherry Hoe. At that
time, she used the excuse of incorrect numbers allegedly recorded at the animal
shelter.
I would like to know how many animals have died in their cages
due to neglect since Sherry Hoe and her staff have been gone. I would like to
know how many animals have been euthanized compared to this time last year. I
would like to know how many animals have been exposed to disease needlessly due
to the unsanitary conditions currently at the shelter. I would like to know how
many animals will die of thirst and dehydration by the time you read this
letter. These are the numbers that concern me.
It has now been 64 days
since my wife Leslie was thrown off of the board of directors for writing a
letter expressing her fears and concerns for the future of the Kaua’i Humane
Society. All I can say is the reality of the situation is much worse than she
even imagined. If you doubt what I am saying, go down to the shelter and see
for yourself. The cats are laying in their own feces because there is nowhere
else to lay.
For all of you who have any responsibility for the current
conditions of the animal shelter, shame on you.
