KOLOA — Walter Lappert has a soft spot (a sweet spot?) for the Boy Scouts of America.
Lappert, owner of Lappert’s Ice Cream, is himself an Eagle Scout, so wanted to personally turn over a check for nearly $4,400 to the Holy Cross Troop 334 recently.
The money is proceeds from the Lappert’s booth at the Koloa Plantation Days Sunset Ho’olaulea at the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort in Po’ipu.
Scouts helped dish out the frozen treat, and were rewarded with the money, which they will use to take a camping trip to Maui.
Their Koke’e trip was canceled by the potential arrival of Tropical Storm Daniel.
Lappert’s planned to make a similar donation after getting some volunteer help at its booth at the Tahiti Fete.
Lappert credited Mary Pratt for her efforts at making these projects pay off for both the company and community groups.
