Please get well soon, Mr. Ex-President

Forget politics. Gerald Ford, the former President who suffered two strokes while in Philadelphia for this week’s Republican Party national convention, deserves the prayers and best wishes of everyone for a speedy and thorough recovery.

Ford was a good steward of the country at a time when it needed reassurance and steady leadership following the resignation of then-President Nixon.

As all of America’s chief executives do, Ford has grown in stature since leaving office. Thus, even though partisanship is at a fever pitch following the GOP convention and in anticipation of the Democrats’ confab that’s soon to come, it should be easy to put such feelings aside and root for a man who did so much for all of us.
