KAPA`A—A total of 33 teams from throughout the state will converge at the New
Kapa`a Ball Park from August 9 through 11 for the state tournament being hosted
here by the Kaua`i Senior Centers softball program.
The tournament will be
celebrating the 25th anniversary of senior softball in the state and will be
featuring four games being played at the same time at the Kapa`a
complex.
Starting times are 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9 and 8:30 a.m.
on Thursday, August 10, with the finals for all four divisions being played on
Friday, August 11 starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Rookies, by virtue of their
playoff win against first-round champion West Kaua`i in a special game last
weekend, will be representing Kaua`i in the “A” Division with West Kaua`i
competing in the “B” Division.
The Lihu`e A’s and East Kaua`i will fill
slots in the “C” Division, and Kawaihau and the K-Makules will be playing in
the “D” Division.
Other teams participating in the state tournament include
the Maui Raiders, Nakoa, Bell Atlantic, the Hawaiians, Kohala Seniors, Aikane
Foundation, and Hilo Pomaikai in the “A” Division.
Division “B” competitors
include Pu`uwai Opio, T. Matsumoto, the Yankees, Cami’s Lounge, Hui Ohana, the
Waimea Paniolos, and the Mustangs.
Car Quest, Honomu Gilroy, Maui Ohana,
Golden Eagles, Paipaikou, and Lokahi make up the field for Division “C,” and
Hui O Kolohe, RME, Hamakua, First Hawaiian MF, the vikings, Kona Gold, and
Harley’s Davidson’s fill out Division “D.”
Opening day will have the
Rookies in action at 10:30 against Bell Atlantic, West Kaua`i taking on Hui
Ohana at 11:45, Lihu`e A’s tangling with Maui Ohana at 10:30, Kawaihau taking
on Hui O Kolohe at 9:15, and the K-Makule matching up with Kona Gold at 3:30
p.m.
There will be no night games played.
Friday’s finals will have all
divisions competing for their respective title with the one team from each
division with the worst record being eliminated from competition.
THE
ROOKIES, Kaua`i Senior Centers’ softball league champions for the 2000 season
will enter the state senior softball tournament in the “A” Division.
A total of 33 teams from around the state will converge on the New Kapa`a Ball
Park starting Wednesday, August 9 with the championships taking place on August
11.
