Emily Silsby, 14, (right) won the women’s division of the rough-water swim
competition during the recent Kaua’i Ocean Festival. She completed the one-mile
swim in Kalapaki Bay in 18 minutes and four seconds. Top finishers behind her
were Andrea Smith (second in 21:16) and Laurel Brier (third in 24:44). In the
men’s competition, which started with a dash (right) from the beach near Kaua’i
Marriott and Beach Resort, Mac Nichols won in 16:04, followed by second-place
Thomas Potter (17:18) and Michael Murray (17:32). The Ocean Festival is an
annual fund-raiser for Kaua’i Food Bank.
