The Calm Water Swim Race
was sponsored by 101 Things to Do and was one of the events in the Kaua’i Ocean
Festival, 2000, a benefit for the Kaua’i Food Bank held June 24-25 at Kalapaki
Bay in Nawiliwili.
The Calm Water Swim is a popular race in the calmer
waters of Kalapaki Bay. Athletes run from the sands near the Kaua’i Marriott
and Beach Resort and swim an 800-meter loop before emerging at the same
start-finish line.
Every participant received a “survivors medal” and the
top three finishers (both men and women) received trophies.
Life safety
support crews were in the water for the entire course but were not needed as
the swimmers raced to the finish.
The next Calm Water Swim Races will be
held June 23, 2001 at the Kaua’i Ocean Festival, 2001.
