PORT ALLEN-Herbert Honjo, fishing aboard the “Fay H,” landed a 200.5-pound ahi
on the opening day of fishing to control the Surfrider Ahi Tournament hosted by
the 154th Air Control Squadron.
Honjo withstood challenges in the remaining
days to win the category with is big opening day fish that saw a total of 10
ahi being submitted for competition with a total weight of 1455 pounds
combined.
Overall competition had a total of 53 fish caught for a combined
weight of 3107.5 pounds. This included ten ahi weighing in at 1455 pounds, six
ko-shibi at 194.5 pounds, five aku at 27 pounds, 11 mahi with a combined weight
of 136 pounds, a pair of marlin that tipped the scales at 808.5 pounds
combined, 18 ono that totalled 480 pounds, and a single “Others” for a
6.5-pound reading.
Ainsley Hori, fishing on the “Jamie Lee,” landed a
480-pound marlin early on opening day for the title in that category. The only
other marlin was landed by Howard Sato aboard the “Kilileo.”
Sato had the
most weight in the tournament with a combined weight of 711.0 pounds based on a
160-pound ahi, a 6.5-pound aku, his marlin at 480 pounds, and three ono
totalling 64.0 pounds.
