I rarely read the paper anymore. It’s not that it’s all bad, it’s just that I
don’t have any time for bad news. Mr. Weir’s most recent personal attack
against certain people because of their politics struck me as extremely rude.
Him calling others arrogant, unprincipled, hypocritical reeks of the kettle
calling the pot black!
These private property rights which Mr. Weir seems
to be hysterically attached to are the same self-righteous attitudes which led
to the American Indians being virtually exterminated and the Hawaiians losing
their land in the white man’s greedy manifest destiny.
Mr. Weir states in
his letter that “he doesn’t care what someone wants to do with their land.” He
states that “no one should have to bow and scrape before any commission or
government agency – no property owner should have to.”
I guess in Mr.
Weir’s realm it should just be up to free enterprise to control and dictate
what happens with our future. Unfortunately greed has little vision.
I do
not necessarily embrace the Sierra Club’s position on any particular issues,
however their representatives conduct themselves in a respectful, principled
manner and whatever their position may be it comes across less offensive than
Mr. Weir and his own elite opinion.
Our private property rights are
basically the zoning, administrative rules, revised statutes, and covenants,
conditions or restrictions that are in effect at this time. While the system is
far from perfect, it is something we all can work with rather than the “free
for all” Mr. Weir would prefer.
