On the deceptive appearance of saving energy, Kaua’i Electric has been
promising rebates for solar water heater installations.
Unfortunately, the
rebates go into the pockets of contractors selling and installing these solar
water heaters.
A few months back, a trusting friend made arrangements
through Kaua’i Electric to purchase a solar water heating system for around
$3,900. Kaua’i Electric promised him a rebate of approximately
$1,400.
After he discovered his contractor had received and pocketed the
rebate, he complained to Kaua’i Electric. They did nothing to correct this
outrageous situation. Certainly, the Contractors’ Licensing Department would
take a dim view of such shady dealings.
Like they say, “”Actions speak
louder than words.” Or to put it another way: Just how serious is Kaua’i
Electric in its alleged program to save electricity when they treat their
customers so callously?
This glaring disregard shows Kaua’i Electric has
no concern for the welfare or rights of its customers, let alone the obvious
lack of motivation in conserving energy in an honest and efficient
manner.
Even with a federal grant of $18,000 in taxpayers’ funds to mount a
huge publicity program promoting energy conservation, Kaua’i Electric does its
best in sabotaging help when it comes to the bottom line.
I am sure the
community would be interested in hearing what Kaua’i Electric has to say for
itself.
