The USGA (United States Golf Association) has announced the Heron Lakes Golf
Course in Portland, Oregon will be the site of the 2000 Amateur Public Links
Championship which will be played during the week of July 10-15.
June 10 is
the Kaua`i Sectional qualifying, a 36-hold medal play, which will be played at
the Wailua Golf Course, said Art Fujita, Kaua`i’s Sectional chairperson for the
USGA.
Fujita urges all public links golfers to file their entries early as
completed entry forms must be received no later than Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at
either the USGA, U.S. Amateur Public Links, P.O. Box 223, Far Hills, NJ
07931-0223, or USGA, Liberty Corner Road, Far Hills, NJ 07931.
Fujita
said entries by phone, telegraph, or faxes are not acceptable. Entry fee is $30
made payable to the USGA, and those entering must have an up-to-date USGA
handicap index of 8.4 or lower.
New for the 2000 year, players will no
longer be permitted to accept reimbursement for their championship expenses due
to the recent removal of this provision from the USGA Rules of Amateur
Status.
