PO’IPU — Master’s winner Vijay Singh of Fiji is the first to earn a berth in
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf, to be contested Nov. 21-22 at Po’ipu Bay Golf
Course on Kaua’i. This will be Singh’s second PGA Grand Slam of Golf
appearance, having earned a berth in 1998 by winning the PGA Championship at
Sahalee Country Club in Redmond, Washington. Singh finished as runner-up in
that year’s PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
The remainder of the 2000 PGA Grand
Slam of Golf foursome, who will contend for a total purse of $1 million, will
feature winners of this year’s U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf winner will earn $400,000. The qualifying foursome
will be seeded based upon the World Golf Rankings following the PGA
Championship. TNT, one of Turner Broadcasting System’s most prominent cable
networks, will televise the PGA Grand Slam of Golf to more than 77 million U.S.
homes and to an international.audience in more than 100 countries in a
prime-time telecast.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is a 36-hole match-play
event conducted over two days. This will be the seventh year Po’ipu Bay Golf
Course and the Hyatt Regency
Kauai Resort & Spa have hosted the
prestigious event. Past participants have included Ernie Els, Lee Janzen, Mark
O’Meara, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III and Greg Norman.
