The Koani Foundation would like to publicly thank some Angels who have helped
our cause a great deal. The cause is the Aloha March 2000 and the struggle
for self-determination for the Native people of Hawai’i.
A successful
fund raising music event was staged this past Saturday night. Great music was
played and fun was had by all.
The big surprise of the evening was when
Butch Kekahu walked into the club and came up to the microphone. He had come
straight from the critical care unit at Kuakini Hospital on O’ahu to be with
us.
We are determined more than ever to return to Washington, D.C.
this August, and to again walk in the footsteps of our Queen to help bring
about the restoration of the Hawaiian Nation.
The success of this
benefit will bring us much closer to those goals.
The person
responsible for this kokua is Scott McCaffery of Honolulu, a wonderful man who
sees the injustice of it all, and wanted to do something to help. Many
Mahalos to Scott, the Musicians, Gloria at Amelia’s, and to Wayne Jacintho and
Marj Dente for making the connections.
The feature article in the
Friday (3/31/00) Garden Island, written by another Angel, Brandon Sprague,
helped to educate people about the Koani Foundation, the fundraising and the
Aloha March 2000. Akua is working overtime through all of us.
