Waimea outshoots Raiders, 42-33

Gives Kapa`a first round lead, rebounds in second

WAIMEA

—The Waimea High School Menehune wahine basketballers rebounded from a 8-9

first quarter deficit to outgun the visiting Kaua`i Red Raiders 12-8, 11-8,

11-8 in the following three quarters to lock up a 42-33 win at the Clem Gomes

Gym on Tuesday night.

The Menehune win gives the Kapa`a Warriors control of

the first round of KIF basketball with a 3-0 standing. Kaua`i follows with

(1-2) and the Menehune victory gives Waimea a 1-2 record with one game

remaining in the round.

Waimea’s guard Ashley Hori ignited in the second

period to pace the Menehune scoring with a 4-point effort and subsequently

ended the night with 13 points to lead the Menehune scoring.

Erica Iwai had

two baskets and a 7-for-8 night at the free throw line for her 11-point

contribution in the win.

Cissy Dennis continued to have the eye for the

Raiders as she led all scorers with 16 points, including a 3-pointer and a

2-for-2 free throw showing in the loss.

Kaua`i hosts Kapa`a on Friday,

April 7 at the Raiderdome on Lala Road with the JV contest tipping off at 5:30

p.m.

The varsity game tips off twenty minutes after the completion of the

JV contest.
