HANAPEPE — League-leading Hanapepe had to score two ninth inning runs to tie
Makaweli 9-9 as the time limit ran out in the Kaua’i AJA Baseball League last
Sunday at Hanapepe Stadium.
In another game, Kalaheo moved into a tie for
first place by beating Kapa’a 7-3.

Makaweli’s
strategy to walk the Hanapepe big hitter to load the bases and get the final
out worked.
Kelly Robinson hit a home run and pitched six innings of relief
to to spark Hanapepe.
David Yamase cracked two doubles and Wendall Nonaka
and Scott Yamase collected a double each for Hanapepe.
Makaweli’s Ikaika
Pezario and Royce Ijima socked three hits apiece. Furtado also walked four
times and scored three runs.
Tyler Kobayashi also helped the Makaweli cause
with a double.
Joshua Maeda and Jason Nakata split the pitching duty for
Makaweli.
Kalaheo 7, Kapa’a 3
It was a pitcher’s duel between Kalaheo’s
Les Obatake and Kapa’a’s Owen Koishigawa, and Obatake won out with seven
strikeouts. Both pitchers went the distance.
Galen Itamura smacked a solo
home run for the winners and Jason Koga came up with three hits, while teammate
Liko Pereira drilled two hits.
Sean Tamura and Allen Mundon collected two
hits each.
