Punzal helps lead Magic to HYSA championship

HONOLULU — Kaua’i’s Mari Punzal was part of Magic.

The Magic, a girls

10-and-under youth soccer team based on O’ahu won the Hawai’i Youth Soccer

Association O’ahu Cup championship at Kapiolani Park recently.

Punzal, a

fifth grader at St. Catherine’s School, scored five goals in seven

games.

Punzal was double-rostered, which means she was also able to play on

the 11-and-under team, and she helped lead them to a second place finish while

earning the division’s Most Valuable Player award.

John Abcameirer is the

head coach of the Magic.

The Magic Soccer Club is part of the National

Soccer Academy which is based in Davis, Calif.

The NSA runs training

camps, clinics and seminars in Hawai’i and California, and also provides

opportunities for club members to travel, compete and train in

Europe.

Kevin Devitt, Ed Kunioka-Volz and Lynn Minei are among Punzal’s

coaches in youth soccer on Kaua’i
