LIHU’E – There might be a whole new way to support high school sports on
Kaua’i.
Eric Toulon, a long-time youth and high school sports booster on
Kaua’i, is working with the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation to create the KIF
Sports Pass.
The KIF’s four school principals have okayed the plan, and KIF
executive secretary Brent Mizutani and the four athletic directors have shown
support, according to Toulon.
One hope is to bring the community closer
together in support of high school sports.
Toulon believes it’s a win-win
situation for everyone — individuals, teams, coaches, officials, schools, the
KIF itself, and local businesses.
The plan calls for the KIF Sports Pass to
be sold to individuals and businesses with 80 percent of the money earned going
back into the KIF for operating costs. The other 20 percent would go into a
fund for clinics and seminars for coaches and officials.
The cost for
individuals would be $100 and the pass would be good for any KIF sporting event
for the whole school year. That would mean considerable savings for those fans
who attend many games.
Organizations and businesses would also be able to
purchase the KIF Sports Pass, and that’s where some substantial monetary
support would be possible.
Toulon wants to introduce the Silver, Gold and
Platinum plans for businesses.
The Silver plan price of anywhere from
$1,000 to $4,900 would get a business a KIF Sports Pass for every $100 paid.
For example, if a business spends $4,900, it would receive 49 passes to give to
employees, clients, friends, or whomever it chooses.
The Gold plan would
cost between $5,000 and $9,900, and the business would get a pass for every
$100 in addition to getting a gold banner (with the business’ name on it)
displayed at all KIF stadium events where an admission price is
charged.
The Platinum plan would cost $10,000, and it would work exactly
like the Gold plan, but it would also include a banner displayed at all KIF
gymnasium events where an admission price is charged.
In addition, up to
four businesses would be able to combine to purchase one of the plans.
