What’s happening? We have a young man who killed two elderly people in a
crosswalk, in two separate incidents, because of his inattentive driving. The
judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail, suspends his license for five years and
gives him 500 hours of community service.
My friend has a son who was never
in jail. He was on probation for drug use and tested positive. He refused to be
represented by council, and was sentenced to five years in jail.
He didn’t
sell drugs and was never in trouble before. He didn’t hurt anyone other than
himself. He didn’t pose a threat to society, but is now into his second year in
prison.
Are the judges sending out a coded message that we don’t seem to
understand?
