– Women’s football tryouts againWAIMEA — The Kaua’i Thunder of the

Hawaiian Women’s Tackle Football League will be holding tryouts again.

The

Thunder played the first-ever women’s football game in Hawai’i against Honolulu

in late 1999 at Vidinha Stadium.

The tryouts for the Thunder are scheduled

for the three Saturdays at the Waimea Ball Park — Feb. 26, March 11 and March

25.

– Miyoshi is RC’s top

qualifier

LIHU’E — Kelsey Miyoshi was the day’s top qualifier in the

Garden Isle RC Racers event last weekend at the Kmart parking lot.

Reggie

Aribon had another big day with victories in three divisions — Modified Sedan,

Gas Sedan A, and Stock Sedan.

Other remote-controlled model vehicle

competitors during the day were Arnold Morales, Earl Balai, Kaikea Kaanaana,

Gary Remigio, Roland Ruiz, Roy Higa, Mike Prince, Bart Garcia, Rey Agcaoili and

Wes Doi.

The next race is scheduled for the Wailua off-road track

today.

– Holiday moto event soon

Kaua’i’s Off-Road Riders will hold its

annual President’s Day All-Trail Weekend, an off-road motorcycle event,

soon.

A Hare Scrambles event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Anahola,

and a Poker Run will follow on Sunday, Feb. 20 at Port Allen.

Registration

for both events is 8:30 a.m. with starting time slated for 9 a.m.

Universal Karate of Kaua’i has set up a drive to find sponsors to support its

program for Kaua’i’s youth.

Classes are at the Kaua’i Veterans Center, and

a new school will be opening on Ewalu St.
