To the Forum:Aloha, I have a solution!
Recently there was an editorial letter expressing the frustration and concern
that our young adults leave our beautiful island because of a lack of
professional jobs. We can change this today!
Kaua’i is in desperate need of
qualified and caring teachers. As our population grows and as older teachers
retire, we are going to have many job openings in a profession that is
extremely important to us …. the future of our keiki.
The University of
Hawai’i is offering a two year program for students to receive a Bachelor
Degree of Elementary Education. And, the students will never have to leave the
Island! Students must have a A.A. degree by May to start the program this
summer.
Here is the problem. The University of Hawai’i has been advertising
for this wonderful opportunity since November. As of today, only two people
have applied to enter the degree program. If there are not 20 people enrolled
in the program by March 1, the University cannot afford to offer the program on
Kaua’i.
Encourage your young adults to enter a profession that makes a
difference in people’s lives. Call Krishen at Kaua’i Community College
(245-8330).
