Hanapepe Stadium.
The Red Raiders preserved their unbeaten record (now
4-0-1) in the tie.
Waimea is still within striking distance at
2-1-2.
In varsity girls action, Kapa’a improved to 5-0 by tripping the
Island/Kula Wolf-Pac 12-0.
There were four other KIF contests on
Saturday.
Varsity Boys
Kaua’i 3, Waimea
William Parubrub opened the
scoring for a 1-0 Waimea lead, and Jamieson Cosier added a second half goal to
make it 2-0.
Ryan Rolland finally got Kaua’i on the board by blasting in a
corner kick from Cole Brandeburg.
Ashley Vidinha pushed Waimea’s lead to
3-1 when he scored on a penalty kick.
But back came the Raiders. With less
than 10 minutes left, Brandeburg took a pass from Mason Chan and scored to make
it 3-2.
Brandeburg then scored the tying goal on a penalty kick.
Kapa’a
12, Island/Kula 0
Kaena Mayer and Colby Ayonon scored three goals apiece to
spearhead the Kapa’a Warriors’ offense.
Kainoa Nakazawa and Tyler Wakuta
added two goals each, and Duncan MacDonald and Eddie Adams both notched one
goal in the win.
“We stayed with them fairly evenly for the first 15
minutes, then gave way to Kapa’a’s better conditioning and skills,” said
Wolf-Pac head coach Sean Magoun. “It was a hard, well-played game both
ways.
Kapa’a is 2-2-1 and Island/Kula is 0-5.
Varsity Girls
Kapa’a
12, Island/Kula 0
The Warrior girls were sparked by the offense of Kanoe
Arinaga, Kelly Devitt, Maja Marti and Rhonda Toki with two goals
each.
Ingrid Nakamura, Jasmine Stevenson, Estrella Barnett and Mytra
DiLeonardo all knocked in one goal.
Erin Emberson nearly scored for the
Wolf-Pac, but her penalty kick went wide right.
“Each week, we struggle to
improve,” Island/Kula coach Magoun said.
The Wolf-Pac is 0-5.
Waimea 0,
Kaua’i 0
The Menehunes almost scored several times on passes from Ashley
Hori and Kailana Soto to Rosanna Estes and Llaya Liberato.
Kaua’i outshot
Waimea 14-6, but Menehune goalie Tina Moreno came up with some big saves with
defensive support from Charis Castillo, Tracie Hayashi, Neki Murayama and Liane
Sakai.
“We’re not as experienced as the other teams, but the girls’
commitment to help each other is providing positive results,” said Waimea coach
Dan Agan.
Kaua’i coach Dennis Chan was pleased with his team’s ball control
and upfield penetration.
Carmel Legacy, Tiana Lum-Tucker, Rani Minei and
Kehau Regidor anchored the Kaua’i effort, while Keavy Brennan threatened up
front with her speed, but came up empty handed.
The Red Raider girls are
3-1-1, while Waimea is 1-3-1.
Junior Varsity Boys
Kaua’i 4, Waimea

Kalen Carveiro scored two goals and Scott Matsumura and Brandon Kimura
scored one each for the Red Raider JV boys.
Riley Shirai, on a cross from
Thelson Aana, notched the lone Waimea goal.
Among the game’s other
outstanding players were Kaua’i’s Ian White, Eric Fujikawa, Aukai Dennis and
Koji Nakaya.
Eric Uribe, Adam Killerman, Curtis Kimura, Cyrus Tumbaga and
Derrick Laguatan turned in noteworthy games for Waimea.
The Raider JV boys
are 3-0 and Waimea is 0-4.
Junior Varsity Girls
Kaua’i 6, Waimea

Amber Santos scored twice for Kaua’i, while Kahea Aqui, Camy Mizukami,
Lehua Wise and Kelly Dennis notched one goal each.
Krystalyn Kashiwabara,
Ashley Tanaka, Alana Brun, Kellie Masuda and Jennifer Kawaguchi all turned in
big games for the Red Raiders.
Heather Prinzing scored for Waimea on a
22-yard direct kick over a Red Raider wall.
Waimea’s standout players
included Carly Ibara, Virginia Aguilar, Keiki Dela Cruz and
Prinzing.
Kaua’i’s JV girls are 3-0 and the Waimea girls are 0-4.
