College staff prepare to anchor a sculpture in front of the Performing Arts
Center on the Puhi campus. The sculpture, called E Ho’onani I Ana Na
Hanano’eau, or Celebration of the Arts, was designed by Shutt’s father, former
Kaua’i resident Ken Shutt and crafted in Pietra Santa, Italy. Shutt, who was
awarded a state foundation commission to do the piece, used three female
dancers cast in bronze to give a feeling of the spirit and grace of the
Hawaiian dance. The statue will be officially dedicated in ceremonies starting
at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 10.
