Led by James Y. Shigeta, state extension 4-H club supervisor, a group of 16 award-winning 4-H club members and three adult volunteer leaders will be in Chicago for the annual 4-H Club Congress, Dec. 1-5 at the Conrad Hilton hotel.
Led by James Y. Shigeta, state extension 4-H club supervisor, a group of 16 award-winning 4-H club members and three adult volunteer leaders will be in Chicago for the annual 4-H Club Congress, Dec. 1-5 at the Conrad Hilton hotel.
Representing Kauai at the national 4-H gathering are Soichi Nagamine, 4-H leader of the Hanapepe Beavers for the past fifteen years and Mimi Tashiro, daughter of Judge and Mrs. Ben Tashiro of Kalaheo. Mr. Nagamine’s trip is sponsored by the 4-H Leaders Federation of Hawaii and Mimi as state home improvement project winner, is sponsored by Sperry and Hutchinson Company representing the S & H Foundation, Inc. of New York.
The delegation is part of some 1600 4-H boys and girls from through out the Nation who will be assembling for new and stimulating experiences in education inspiration and recognition.
The Island 4-H’ers are all winners of various state awards programs and their records have been submitted for national recognition, Among prizes are scholarships and trips awards.
The 4-H leaders when not chaperoning the 4-H’ers will be involved in learning and training sessions.
The Hawaii delegation will visit San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York City, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles before returning to the islands Dec. 14.
Besides the two from Kauai, Oahu will be represented by eight 4-H’ers, one 4-H’er from Lanai and 1 leader, two from Maui, four from Hawaii and one leader.
