Those were some of the experiences the eighth-grade students from St. Catherine School had Tuesday when they arrived at the Kauai Independent Food Bank warehouse with the results of their food drive. They collected 162 pounds of food.
“I want these students to learn how to do service projects,” said Kristen Simczak, teacher. “For a lot of these students, this is their final year in a Catholic school, and I wanted to make them aware of service and giving back.”
KIFB’s Leona Perez and Kelvin Moniz had the students go through a variety of tasks involved in getting food to those who need it.
One of these activities included the packing of backpack meals that led to an explanation of nutrition.
