KAPAA — Both lanes of Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of Pono Kai Resort and Kauwila Street in Kapaa are closed following a single-car crash at about 9 this morning

Kauai County is advising people to avoid the area if possible.

Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Inia Street, and southbound traffic is being diverted onto Kauwila Street then onto Ulu Street.

Witnesses reported the car was traveling at a high speed when a vehicle sideswiped a telephone pole.

The crash was the result of a high speed chase by police, according to details heard on my police scanner. There were 4 occupants in the vehicle, 2 males, and two females.
