KILAUEA — The Sullivan Family of Companies’ Kalama Beach Corporation has started construction on a 12,700-square-foot grocery store and restaurant at Kilauea Lighthouse Village in Kilauea.
Kilauea Market + Cafe — expected to open in May — is owned and operated by Kalama Beach Corporation. The new hybrid “grocerant” (grocery store-restaurant) will provide the neighborhood with a selection of fresh, Kauai-grown, specialty, gourmet and traditional grocery items, as well as convenient prepared restaurant-quality foods.
It will also feature a coffee bar, an in-store dining and seating area, and made-to-order foods from an in-store kitchen.
Featuring local on-island and regional products, meat, seafood, produce, deli, bakery, liquor and a wide range of natural, organic and local offerings from organic chicken to locally grown kale, Kilauea Market + Cafe will allow customers to do their shopping without leaving the community.

Architects G70 designed the Kilauea Market + Cafe after extensive research on history, flora and fauna of the area. The goal was to pay tribute to Kilauea’s famous lighthouse and its plantation history.
Kilauea Lighthouse Village is a 43,000-square-foot neighborhood center in historic Kilauea Town, 1.5 miles from the Kilauea Point Lighthouse. In addition to anchor Kilauea Market + Cafe, the center will offer a mix of businesses and essential services including restaurants, small retailers and office space.
Hunt Companies is the developer of Kilauea Lighthouse Village, which broke ground in September 2016 and is slated for completion in late 2018. Shioi Construction, Inc. is the general contractor, and Ka‘iwa Construction, Inc. serves as the site contractor. Subcontractors include Aloha Termite, American Electric, Astro Sheet Metal, Diamond Plumbing, Pacific Mirror &Glass, JD Painting and Waihona Cabinets. All are Kauai-based companies.
Other Kilauea Lighthouse Village tenants expected to open in the first half of 2019 include Island Soap &Candleworks; Kai Bar Coffee Roasters; Kauai North Shore Animal Clinic, a full-service veterinary practice focusing on small animals; Wailua Shave Ice; and Wyland Galleries.

Kilauea Lighthouse Village will create an estimated 100 permanent jobs. Of those, approximately 50 will be hired at Kilauea Market + Cafe when it opens.
