The Kauai Interscholastic Federation football game at Vidinha Stadium Saturday had a silver lining.
“Times and Big Save SuperMarkets would like to express a sincere mahalo to the people of Kauai for supporting the 2018 Shop and Score program,” said Tad Fujiwara of the Times Supermarket. “Your support of Shop and Score allowed KIF member high schools here on Kauai to earn much-needed athletic equipment and uniforms. This year, the Shop and Score program is pleased to announce that schools here on Kauai have earned a total of $47,352 in Adidas athletic equipment and uniforms. Since the program started nine years ago, the Shop and Score program has earned more than $330,000 for Kauai high schools in the KIF.”
The presentation was done during halftime of the football game between Kapaa and Kauai high schools, the second-to-last scheduled KIF football game, before a sea of red and green under the hot afternoon sun.
“Times and Big Save would like to thank its many participating product sponsors, Sportsline, Adidas and American Savings Bank for making the Shop and Score possible,” Fujiwara said.
Under the Shop and Score program that starts in September and runs through October, shoppers at Times and Big Save earn points that can be credited to the participating KIF schools.
Waimea High School finished in first place with a whopping 34,570 points, well ahead of second-place finisher Castle High School in Kaneohe, Oahu, which finished with 30,890 points.
Kauai High School finished fourth in the program’s top 10 listing at 27,734 points, followed by Kapaa High School in seventh place overall with 22,673 points.
There were 34 high schools participating throughout the state. Waimea High School finished tops with 8.51 percent of the total overall points totaling 384,222 points as of the Oct. 15 posting.
