Mabel Sunada
Mabel Sunada, 98, of Lihue, passed away on Sept. 28, 2018, at Garden Island Healthcare.
Born on Feb. 21, 1920, in Hanalei, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by parents Saichi and Higano Yagihara, husband Frank Sunada, brothers Teruaki and Terry Yagihara, sister Doris Cabbab, and grandchildren Colin and Tina Sunada.
She is survived by sons Dennis (Sadie) Sunada of Wailua, Donald Sunada of Lihue and Roy (Amy) Sunada of Hanapepe, daughters Shirley (Alan) Inouye of Kaneohe, Patsy (Jim) Hatmaker of Idaho and Marilyn (Herbert) Nii of Kaneohe, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brother Glenn (Violet) Yagihara of Hanalei, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Yoshie Yatsuoka
Yoshie Yatsuoka, 86, passed away on Sept. 28, 2018, in Waimea.
Born on Nov. 10, 1931, in Lihue, she was a service deli worker with Kauai Kitchen in Waimea.
She is survived by son Gary (Peggy) Yatsuoka of Waimea, daughter Joyce Coryell of California, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister Millie “Miyasako” (Ron) Ibaraki of Oahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Eliezer Arbias Same
Eliezer Arbias Same, 95, of Kapaa, passed away on Oct. 3, 2018, at his home.
He was born on March 12, 1923, in the Philippines.
He was preceded in death by parents Aquilino and Lourdes Same, brother Eben Same, and sister Esther Geslani.
He is survived by wife Rachel Same of Kapaa, son Elmer (Aida) Same of Los Angeles, daughter Eloisa (Reynaldo) Velasquez of Los Angeles, eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Kapaa Seventh Day Adventist Church. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. with services to begin at noon, with a reception to follow.
The family suggests casual attire and graciously requests that flowers be omitted.
Borthwick Kauai Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lo‘i Ulugalu Jr.

Lo‘i Ulugalu Jr. passed away on Sept. 12, 2018, at The Queen’s Medical Center — West Oahu.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1968, in Onenoa Village, American Samoa. He moved to Kauai in 1988.
He was preceded in death by father Lo‘i Ulugalu, brothers Alosina To‘omalatai and Mike Lo‘i, and sister Eseta Tofiga.
He is survived by mother Taumaoe To‘omalatai Ulugalu, sons Micah Lo‘i, Iona Lo‘i and Luka Lo‘i from Laura Luka, brothers Logoifetalaigaese Ulugalu, Canton Lo‘i, Peni Ulugalu and Esekia Ulugalu, sisters Malaefono Mikaele, Lagavale Fo‘ilefutu and Moli To‘ilolo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. at Puka Ministries at Kealia Farm Sanctuary, followed by a celebration of life at Kealia Beach Park at noon.
