Melissa said there was water when the capsule was unearthed, and the contents of the capsule (there’s a hand-written note from then-Grove Farm community relations director Angela Morehead (miss those days of working with Bruce Morehead at Budget Rent A Car), Kukui Grove manager William Honjiyo, and David Pratt in the original Kukui Grove shopper) are currently being dried out. Anyone with expertise on drying out waterlogged items — especially paper — can call Melissa.
Once dried, Melissa said the shopping center intends to set up a display of the artifacts.
Kudos to Brandon Makua and his Associated Students of University of Hawaii – Kauai on working with all those community partners like the Millennial Team of the Community Coalition Kauai and the Kauai Community College History Club to register voters (a lot of the attendees were already registered) and provide a forum for candidates vying for the seven Kauai County Council seats. Kauai Community College will be featuring a one-on-one with mayoral candidates Derek Kawakami and Mel Rapozo, Oct. 22 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Fine Arts Auditorium.
People wanting to ask questions of the candidates can look for the poster and drop box on campus (check out the menu before you go — the cafeteria is a great place for breakfast or lunch!), and don’t forget to get up early, Saturday for the Lihue Christian Church bazaar (if you go at 8:30 a.m., it’s already wait-in-line time).
