KAPAA — Firefighters from the Kaiakea and Kapaa fire stations rescued a 27-year-old female hiker who was hurt when she fell about 15 feet about halfway up the trail to Uluwehi Falls in Wailua.
Firefighters hiked into the area and had planned to bring the injured woman out using a litter, according to a county press release. However, due to the recent rains and flooding, large debris obstructed the trail.
The woman was instead brought down to the Wailua River trailhead, where fire personnel assisted in loading her into a kayak. A firefighter, along with a commercial tour guide, then paddled the injured hiker to the Kamokila Village boat ramp.
Personnel assisted medics with loading her into an ambulance. She was transported to Wilcox ER with sustained non-life threatening injuries.
