Charles ‘Charlie’ Franklin Soto Sr.
Charles “Charlie” Franklin Soto Sr., 72 of Kapaa, Kauai, passed away on July 12, 2018, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1946, in Lihue, Kauai, and was a retired landscaper.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cataline Carley Soto and Rose Mary Soto; sister, Barbara Soto.
Charles is survived by wife, Barbara Jean Soto of Kapaa, Kauai; brother, Michael Soto of Eleele, Kauai; sisters, Mabel Laysa of Wahiawa, Oahu; Lorraine Rodrigues and Betty Colobong of Lihue, Kauai; son, Charles (Michelle) Soto Jr. of Waianae, Oahu; daughter, Venus Kanoho of Anahola, Kauai; son-in-law, Burl Kanoho of Warrenton, Oregon; grandchildren, Joshua Dasalia-Soto, Charles Franklin Soto III, Clifton Dasalia, Zaelynn Soto, Eusebio Dasalia-Soto of Kapaa, Kauai, Carley Awong of Orem, Utah, Kawika Soto, Nalani-Jean Soto of Waianae, Oahu, Chynoa Kanoho of Anahola, Kauai, Burl Kanoho Jr., Ashley-Rose (Tim) Kanoho-Ueland, Cyrus Kanoho and Anela Kanoho of Warrenton, Oregon; hanai grandchild, Kande Wong of Hanamaulu, Kauai; great-grandchildren; Joseph-Charles Kaneholani-Soto, Jo’zaevaleh Kaneholani-Soto of Koloa, Kauai, Zander Kanoho-Ueland, Karli-Rose Kanoho-Ueland and Phoenix Kanoho-Ueland of Warrenton, Oregon; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Lydgate Beach Park with services beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Takashi Hashimura
Takashi Hashimura, 94 years old of Eleele, Kauai, passed away on July 21, 2018, at Garden Isle Rehabilitation Healthcare Center. Born on March 2, 1924, in Kukuiula, Kauai, he was a retired field laborer of McBryde Sugar Company and also served in the United States Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eimatsu and Hideyo Hashimura; wife, Asano Hashimura; brother, Katsumi Hashimura; sister, Doris Hironaka.
He is survived by his son, Gene (Marie) Hashimura of Wailua Houselots, Kauai; daughters, Deborah Hashimura of Honolulu, Oahu Sandra Takizawa of Honolulu, Oahu; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Hiroki (Yuki) Hashimura of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Nancy (Wallace) Nakamoto of Chicago, Illinois, Helen Fujimoto of Seattle, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Hanapepe Hongwanji Mission from 9 to 9:45 a.m. where memorial services and celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. Military honors inurnment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Florence Lizares Duarte, 87, of Kapaa, passed away at home on Aug. 11, 2018. She was born in Haiku, Maui on Jan. 3, 1931, and retired as a store manager with Tony’s Mini Mart.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Wallace Duarte; parents, Vicente and Theodora Lizares; brothers, Pedro Lizares, Benjamin “Ben” Lizares, Phillip Lizares, Charles “Charlie” Lizares; sisters, Clara Cubero, Helen Rumbaoa, Lillian Traya, Grace Marie Glory, Irene Ruth Renio, Leonora Lizares, Leonara “Judy” Lovelace, Christine “Chris” Ramsay, Rosaline “Rosie” Amis, Genevieve “Sue” Hamada, Theodora “Ronnie” Lagon.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at St. Catherine’s Church with viewing from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Valerie Ann Mui Ying Wong Poai
Valerie Ann Mui Ying Wong Poai, 69 years old of Kapaa, Kauai, passed away on Aug. 5, 2018, at her home in Kapaa. Born on May 27, 1949, in Lihue, Kauai, she was retired as a school based health nurse with the Department of Education.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold “Ah Lok” Wong and Mary Huddy Wong; husband, Mike Poai.
She is survived by her son, Michael “Roven” Poai, Kapaa; daughters, Mei Lin (Kahuwila) Kanakaole of Kapaa, Malia (Ross) Gusman of Kapaa, Maile Poai of Kapaa, Stacy Poai of CA; brothers, Sam (Linda) Wong of Kapaa, Dennis (Cheryl) Wong of Wailua; sisters, Moki (Freckles) Smith of Kapaa; grandchildren, Breana Poai, Bryson Poai, Brayden Poai, Kahuwila Kanakaole, Kam Lin Kanakaole; great-grandson, Trysten Poai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard ‘Dick’ Joseph Bechard
Richard “Dick” Joseph Bechard, 83, died Aug. 23, 2018. He drifted off peacefully at home in Lihue, Hawaii with his loving wife Luvimin Pajarillo Ganotisi Bechard by his side.
Dick was born in Waterville, Maine, on June 25, 1935, to Edward J. Bechard and Antoinette Marie Leblanc Bechard.
He was a fireman in Leesburg and then enjoyed a long career with Florida Telephone Company.
He was an avid trails rider for years and later turned to white water rafting and kayaking, as well as taking long walks on the beach with Luvi.
Dick is survived by his wife, Luvimin; his first wife, Elizabeth Ann St. Amand Bechard Jones of Orlando and their three children, Ann Bechard Stahl of Ergershiem, Germany, Beth Bechard Mills of Gainesville, Florida and Alan Arthur Bechard of Clarksville, Tennessee; their spouses, (Karl, Jon and Hanna) and their children and grandchildren as well as his niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Toni and his siter Reinette Bechard Couture.

Angelina Velasco Manzano
Angelina Velasco Manzano, of Kapaa, passed away at Samuel Mahelona Hospital on Aug. 22, 2018, at the age of 90. She was born on Oct. 1, 1927, in Tarlac, Philippines, and was a homemaker.
Angelina Manzano is survived by her 2 sons, Antonio Manzano Jr. of Kapaa, Ronnie (Jeannette) Manzano of Kapaa; daughters, Gloria (Jimmy) Valdez of Kapaa, Victoria (Jovencio) Escalona of Philippines, Virginia (Julius) Yacas of Seattle, WA., Cesaria (Floriano) Gacula of Philippines, Lorlina (Tim) Aquino of Seattle, WA; sister, Angela (Manny) Roaquin of New York; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father, Mariano Velasco and mother, Cesaria Payumo Velasco.
Friends may visit with the family at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapaa, on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018. Visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. with Mass to be held at 10 a.m., followed by a burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
The family suggests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
