LIHUE — The National Weather Service has canceled the Hurricane Watch for Kauai and Ni‘ihau, and has placed the county under a Tropical Storm Watch as of 11 a.m. Friday. A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical storm conditions are possible within 48 hours.
LIHUE — As of 11 a.m. Saturday, Kauai County remains in a Flash Flood Watch, as the National Weather Service has canceled the Tropical Storm Watch for Kauai and Niihau. Residents are reminded that heavy rains still have the potential to cause flash flooding, landslides and other hazardous conditions. Residents and visitors should monitor the weather and be prepared to take action in the event that a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
A High Surf Advisory has been extended until 6 p.m. Saturday for all south and east-facing shores. Beachgoers are urged to heed all posted warnings and advisories, and stay out of the water. Spectators are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
NWS reports that as 5 p.m. Saturday, Tropical Storm Lane was 180 miles south-southwest of Lihue was moving west and away from the Hawaiian Islands at 9 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph
