Yukimura can be trusted to lead Kauai
Are years of experience, while never perfect, a valuable support to higher office? They are, and they make a difference. I believe that Joanne Yukimura only wants to succeed for the future of our County of Kauai. She had successful visions which were implemented, and which continue to advance realities for most of the residents of our island. She’s made some mistakes along the way, she’s developed new perspectives, she still attempts to communicate with old adversaries, and she is well known to so many residents.
No one said that being a politician is a simple thing to be. I am not a card-carrying Democrat, Republican or Independent, but I’ve lived here long enough and watched change happen long enough to emphatically trust Joanne Yukimura.
Voters deserve a fair chance to choose between the sustainable controlled development which we all know we need or money backed uncontrolled development that damages our life style. Now is the “tipping scale” time.
Please vote and in so doing have our primary election yield two top candidates to duke it out starting Aug. 12. See you at the polls — for those of us that still love the feeling of voting lines, neighbors and smiles of freedom.

Road projects or campaigning?
Great job on the repaving of Kuhio Highway in Wailua. I wonder when the project will be completed.
The article in the May 20 TGI newspaper, “Kuhio to be widened, resurfaced,” surely gave the impression that the project included the long-awaited, long-overdue widening to four lanes with turning lanes. The article included a photo of Rep. Tokioka and Sen. Kouchi.
A telephone call to the DOT engineers revealed more facts. Following a little chuckle from the engineer, I was informed that there would be no “widening” and that this was “just a Band-Aid project.”
Oh yeah! It’s election time.
All within the last six months, Kuhio Highway, Nawiliwili Road and the section of Kuhio Highway near Hanamaulu where the road-paving equipment is conveniently parked for the last 2-3 months to give the appearance of work to be done. All areas of great exposure.
Oh yeah! It’s election year.
I wonder where the funds for these projects suddenly came from.
Oh yeah! It’s election year.

Four of the seven mayorals have not just made mistakes, theyve have criticized in reality books written about them all, but like everything else island people have barked up the coconit tree. The council wannabees too young have no idea what is and has gone down Decades, via the career politicians the military and our judiciary has some unbelievable issues, they making decisions on who is and who is not a criminal. Another good practice are those that are the department volunteer planning board that has the power to give or deny building permits, as long as you are a corporate or corporate non profit. No kanaka can ever get their hands on their trust fund until they become a Corporation or 501c3 nonprofit, like uturnforchrist or new hope. Did you know it is not mandatory to be an american citizen? So how is it an entire group of every island has a fake birth certificate like obama and your social security card that the high caps means you are an american individual corporatian. ARE you paying attention yet?
Elizabeth Scamahorn – Have you been here long enough to remember or even comprehend that her “workforce housing” bill virtually halted all new housing development with its huge and unrealistic extractions? Talk about forcing up the price of housing here. She’s a major reason why housing is so expensive here; both rental and purchase. Look up Dennis Esaki’s August 5th Letter to the Editor and learn something. Further, it was her Anti-Big Box bill that not only killed food price competition thereby maintaining higher food costs and hurting the poor, but it also protected her family member’s food brokerage business. To me that’s out & out corruption. And she said she was trying to protect Mom & Pop groceries which have all sold out anyway. Great thinking, JoAnn! Time for her to go away with her ill-conceived and hurtful ideas.
manawai,
Elizabeth Scamahorn has been here a very long time and has been a tremendous resource to the community during that time. This, you could have quickly and easily determined instead of blithering as usual. You’re old enough to do better!
Joanne’s been a warrior fighting for Kauai since the hippies took over the North Shore. She’s earned the respect of our Island Ohana as much as any citizen of Kauai in our lifetimes. She’s a Kauai treasure!
Too funny, this was a joke right?
