HANAPEPE — The county Department of Water is hosting an informational meeting for the upcoming reorganization and improvements construction project for the Hanapepe-Eleele Water System on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Hanapepe Recreation Center.
The Hanapepe-Eleele Water System reorganization and improvements construction project is part of DOW’s Water Plan 2020, a comprehensive, long-range plan that addresses the need to upgrade aging infrastructure on Kauai.
Work will include installation of a 16-inch main line along Kaumualii Highway, a new 6-inch main line replacement on Hanapepe Road, and installing appurtenances that will include additional 8- and 12-inch main lines, connections to existing waterlines, new service laterals, valves, fire hydrants, an emergency pump connection and other restoration and repaving work.
“This project will improve service areas in old Hanapepe town and address the current and future needs of the Hanapepe-Eleele Water System,” said Dustin Moises, DOW’s chief of construction management. “The DOW worked with the community to complete the planning and design phase over the past few years and we encourage residents and businesses to attend this informational meeting to learn more about the upcoming construction phase and discuss any concerns with our contractor, DOW staff and consultants.”
Work will begin this September, with anticipated completion in July 2019.
