Brad Hiranaka, Kauai Youth Football commissioner, and Troy Hamura show off the 17 pound kahala that didn’t count for the first KYF shoreline fishing tournament at Nawiliwili Park.

The weigh in girls, Cherise Nacnac, Christine Cadiz, Allison Hiranaka, Krystyn Apuna, and Rachelle Asuncion get together before the first anglers arrive at the Kauai Youth Football first shoreline fishing contest at Nawiliwili Park.

Troy Hamura snagged a 17-pound kahala that would have won the Others 5 pounds and over class at the first Kauai Youth Football shoreline tournament (Kudos to Brad Hiranaka and his entire KYF ‘ohana on a great tournament!). But the Honor System prevailed because Gordon Higa (he was one of the weighmasters with Scotty Taba and Joe Hepa) said while Troy was fighting the fish, the line broke. Troy saw the fish in the water and summoned the help of a passing boat to help him retrieve the catch that would’ve been the only fish making the 5 Pounds and Over class. Kudos to Troy on being a great mentor to the other anglers in the contest!
