LIHUE — Starting on Wednesday, the County of Kauai Transportation Agency will be operating two electric bus demonstrations on the Kekaha and Hanalei mainline routes free of charge.
“This electric bus demonstration is part of our initiative to create a healthier community, while promoting renewable transportation,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. “An electric bus is just one way we will create a better future for our children and reach our clean energy goals.”
Two 40-feet battery electric busses from different bus manufacturers (Proterra and BYD Motors) will run parallel to the existing Kekaha and Hanalei routes.
Kauai Bus staff will be present on the busses to ask riders to provide feedback in order for the Transportation Agency to gather data for the potential future use of the buses.
