The Nawiliwili Yacht Club hosts its 18th annual Keiki Fishing Tournament Sunday during Father’s Day at the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor within visual limits of the NYC Clubhouse.
“This catch-and-release event is a big hit with the public,” said Kevin Arndt, the NYC commodore. “It’s one of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s major outreach events.”
Open to keiki between 3 to 13 years old — young ones are strongly encouraged to bring an adult helper, admission is $5 and includes a hot dog and cold drink (Sharon and Doug Gibson label this “Yacht Dawgs”). Anglers need to bring their own bucket (to hold the catch until released), pole, and bait. There will be no gear available at the site.
Gordon Higa, a local fisherman, is already anticipating the action by attending and helping “young’ns” with no adult helper.
Registration takes place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and fishing ends at 12:30 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded at 1:30 p.m., with winners needed to be present to earn prizes.
